Practically Frugal, How God Tricked Me into Living the Life of My Dreams with Less

When I surrendered my life over to God, He made it clear that there were some drastic changes to be made.

He told me to:

  • quit my job
  • get rid of my makeup
  • get rid of my clothes

So I obliged the God of heaven and earth and put all that stuff in a box to the left_ just like the Beyoncé song.

After doing all the Lord had instructed, we found ourselves (my husband and I) in a predicament.

By predicament, I mean a FINANCIAL CRISIS equivalent to the economic recession of 2020, except this all transpired back in 2018.

We had he same amount of bills, now with interest, and I had NO WAY to earn a living.

We were brooooooooooooke y’all.

But, instead of looking to God for provision and innovative ideas to make some cash, I kept on in my old style of self pity repeating my new mantra, “I am poor. I am so poor.”

Eveeeeeeeeentually, I got the message.

I imagine Noah had similar problems trying to figure out how to fashion that ark together and finance the whole thing.

That’s when God told me that Elijah Essentials would be a thing.

And, more then one person randomly prophesied that I would have a worldwide healing women’s ministry.

Yep, all with our massive debt, back taxes, and no money to start a ministry or business.

Who am I kidding ya’ll, we did not even have enough money to buy food.

But, God had a plan, once much bigger than I could ever imagine, one which has not been brought to fruition, not just yet.

“My thoughts are nothing like your thoughts,” says the LORD. “And my ways are far beyond anything you could imagine.”

Isaiah 55:8 (NLT)

Alright, so we could not afford to buy food, so God told me to grow it.

I did not know how to do that, so I failed gloriously but learned my lessons and grew alongside my garden.

The more I prayed and read His Word, the better decisions I made and my physical, mental, and spiritual health improved.

Some things I could not afford no matter how tight I spun he budget.

Makeup, new clothes, and hygiene products were NOT on God’s shopping list.

That’s when I found the wonderful world of DIY and low to zero waste items.

That is something I now have a passion for and really enjoying doing and teaching!

God also came through with a back up plan when I feel short (which I did ALOT).

He sent some nice people to our house with food and even got me a job working from home in an office making more money.

But, since we had accrued a substancial sum of debt, most of that money went (and still goes) to paying off the man.

“One person pretends to be rich, yet has nothing; another pretends to be poor, yet has great wealth.”

Proverbs 13:7 (NIV)

In my case, there was not pretending involved, I did not have money.

But, I did and still do have God on my team.

There is a difference between being frugal to build wealth (and pay debt) and being poor.

Bring poor is a mindset, and if you keep telling yourself you are poor, you will STAY POOR.

This poverty mindset also tends to make people cheap and super desperate, acting more like animals than human beings.

The truth is, God is the one doing the providing. HE is our provision.

“Consider the ravens: They do not sow or reap, they have no storeroom or barn; yet God feeds them. And how much more valuable you are than birds!”

Luke 12:24 (NIV)

Just like Jesus says above, God will provide for us, but we have to trust Him and seek Him FIRST.

“But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.”

Matthew 6:33

Thanks for reading.

Much Love, Many Blessings, Jesus is Lord.
