What is Bentonite Clay?

Why Use Bentonite Clay?
Bentonite clay is a natural, inexpensive, abundant clay that is in good supply in the United States. The name bentonite comes from the word. In this case Benton, Wyoming, which is one of the largest reserves of this powdered beauty magic!
How does It Work?
Is it magic? Nope! It’s science. When applied as a mask, bentonite attracts dirt particles in our skin and sucks them out to the skin’s surface.
Bentonite can pull out dirt and toxins so efficiently because of its charge. Bentonite is a negatively charged particle, and since opposites attract, bentonite attracts positively charged particles. That means bentonite grabs ahold of dirt, oil, and excess sebum that cause acne. When we wash off our face, all the icky stuff goes down the drain.
When skin gets full of dirt and excess oil, problems like pimples can pop up. Coming from someone who was tormented by acne most of her life, I personally recommend bentonite clay for anyone suffering with breakouts. I KNOW how hard that can be.
Also, excess dirt, oil, dead skin, and toxins can make the skin look heavy and dull which can contribute to more noticeable signs of aging. In addition, bentonite clay may be effective in increasing collagen production in the skin, therefore increasing its elasticity and youthful appearance.
How to Use Bentonite Clay
There are lots of ways to use bentonite clay, but my favorite way is a face mask. I know a naturopathic doctor who even incorporates it into his practice to help people heal from heavy metal toxicity! WOW, clearly bentonite clay is powerful stuff!
Here’s my favorite bentonite mask recipe below.
Bentonite Face Mask
- 1 tbsp apple cider vinegar
- 1 tbsp water
- 2 tbsp bentonite clay
- 1 drop essential oil of your choice
- Wash and clean any makeup off the face.
- Open your pores by steaming your skin with a hot towel beforehand to improve the effectiveness of the mask. This step is optional.
- Wait in a cool place for 10 minutes or until the mask is dry. It is normal to feel your face start to pulsate (seriously). As long as there isn't any pain, persist!
- Remove the mask with warm water and a cloth and apply your favorite moisturizer. ENJOY your clean, glowing skin!
