Yahweh Will Test Your Priorities: When Life Gets Messy, Showing up is Half the Battle

I headed out to the library this morning, sick, tired, and worn down.

Indeed, I feel like I have been served up a double dose of the Monday blues, despite the fact that it is Tuesday.

But, the show must go on, and I know that I NEED my time writing with Yahweh as much as I need food or exercise, possibly even more so.

Over time, from ministering to Yahweh and during my time as a soldier in the Army, I have learned that oftentimes, half the battle is simply SHOWING UP.

Sure, it is easy to show up when you have had eight hours of sleep, a nice breakfast, and your skin looks amazing.

But, what about when you are exhausted from battling an illness all night, did not have time or money for breakfast, and you look 5 years older than your actual age?

That, my brothers and sisters, is when it is most important to SHOW UP.

Because, when we show up for Yahweh’s appointment despite obstacles, and place ministering to Him first, we effectively spiritually slap Satan right in the face.

When the enemy places an obstacle, we address it if needed, or ignore it if Yahweh is calling for our focus on something else in that moment.

Jesus replied: “’Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’

Matthew 22:27 (NIV)

Do you love Yahweh? Are you obedient to Jesus, the king appointed in charge of all things by God?

“If you love Me, you will keep My commandments.”

John 14:15 (ESV)

Keeping the commandments is easy when everything is going well, when you have plenty of money in the bank, a nice home, and lots of food to eat.

But, what about when things get tough and you are broke and hungry despite your best efforts to obey God?

Or worse, what about when those things happen to you BECAUSE you obeyed Yahweh?

Sharpen your number 2 pencil because that is when it is time to take a test.

Ask yourself the following questions to train your mind to be aware of when your are being tested.

Will you look to Yahweh for provision, even when you feel abandoned by Him?

Will you keep an open mind and heart in order to discern God working in your life?

Will you give up the things you are holding onto in order to receive something better, EVEN when you must go without for a time?

Are you willing to wait on Yahweh and trust that He is making a way for you?

“Commit everything you do to the LORD. Trust him, and he will help you.”

Psalm 37:5 (NLT)

I encourage you to read the scriptures and learn the testimonies of the people of the Bible.

Just be careful not to idealize the people like characters in a TV show.

What I mean by this is we must be careful not to turn God’s Word into a a soap opera in our minds.

The Bible is full of stories of real, messy, imperfect people just like you and I.

But, despite their character flaws, Yahweh used them for great things.

Examples:

  • Moses – studderer
  • Jacob – shady character
  • Noah – got drunk
  • David – womanizer & murderer

Get the idea?

With the help of Yahweh, the people of the Bible were able to overcome their character flaws.

And not only that, their weaknesses drew them even closer to Yahweh.

So, when life gets messy, (which it will), look to Yahweh for advice and provision.

Give up your own idea of perfection so you might come to know Yahweh’s good and perfect will for your life.

In life, we will have problems but Yahweh is immensely bigger and more powerful than our problems.

“I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.”

John 16:33 (NIV)

Thanks for reading. Much Love, Many Blessings, Jesus is Lord.
